Emphasising that feeling of isolation within the city.

Shot 11

Another shot of a busy street scene. Narrator will discuss the different types and effects of Isolation.

Shot 12

Discuss the new age of social networking. No longer the need to go out and meet people. Can now hold online conversations.

Shot 13

Short snippets of people been filmed by there webcam. I want to look at a few different subjects and study how they portray themselves depending on who they are talking to.

They will be short, fast cuts.

Shot 14

Then we will meet our character Tom who has a multiple personality disorder, but he likes to call it 'A collective personality method'. This is Tom's way of evolving the digital social network to the outside world.

We will follow Tom for a week to see all his personalities.

Shot 15

We will see exactly the same shot of Tom putting on his Tash everyday. Then we will follow him and his persona.

It will be a tight head shot. Maybe not his whole face.

Shot 16

Tom on his second day.

The different personas we will follow are:

- The Hero
- The Bruiser
- The Square
- The Weasel
- The Sherif
- The Grandpa

Sophie Calle

In my tutorial, I was told to look at the artist and photographer Sophie Calle.

Image from Getty Images

Calle is a French writer, photographer, installation artist and conceptual artist. Her work examines identity and intimacy, which in turn depicts human vulnerability. Calle often goes under cover to achieve her work- 'she is recognised for her detective-like ability to follow strangers and investigate their private life'. Her work actually leaves you feeling quite disturbed and uneasy at how easy it is to be followed without even noticing!

Here are some examples of Calle's work:

This is from her project entitled 'The Sleepers'. Calle placed an advert in her local paper where she offered her bed to her friends and strangers for 8 full days. She would take photographers of the people occupying her bed, and make notes of the process every hour. Calle is fascinated by the interface between our public life and our private life, and this is a great example of her exploring this idea.

Here, Calle set up a hidden camera at a cash machine. She documented a process that is usually very private- she captured expressions that normally would not be displayed. They varied from happiness, sadness, anger and surprise. Pure human emotion that has not been dramatised for the effect of the camera.

The information for this post was sourced from Wikipedia and books on the artist Sophie Calle.

Penparc, Wales

I went on a small break to Wales in November. I took this as an opportunity to look for scenes of Isolation to film. Here are a couple of stills I took from my trip:

It was amazing, as there was hardly any people anywhere! You really did feel like you were miles away from civilisation.

Google Image search results on Isolation

Still taken from the a film titled 'Isolation' (2009).
This is an interesting documentary looking at issues of Isolation for soldiers when they come back from theatre.

Night scene of London
It's quite unusual to see a scene of London without any people in it. This is what drew my attention to this shot.

Snap shot taken on the London Underground
The London underground as we know it! Can be quite an unfriendly, isolating place.

Beech Scene
Nice shot showing 'Isolation'. The sky and the landscape are the most dominate parts of the image, making the child appear even smaller.

Film produced for Picturehouse cinemas. Shot by an ex-army solider, Stuart Griffiths.  The film reveals the controversial stories behind military statistics. It studies life after the army for UK soldiers. This is a link o the Trailer.
Film Synopsis-
In association with Branchage Film Festival.
A quarter of British ex-soldiers sleep rough after they leave the forces. This is an impressionistic portrait of the emotional and physical aftermath of war, seen through the eyes of Stuart Griffiths, an ex-soldier made homeless after returning to civvy street, now a family man and renowned professional photographer. ISOLATION's elegant crafting gives a poetic backdrop to the quiet dignity and forbearance of men whose lives are in some ways wrecked, but who bravely take what the world deals them. The soldiers' words are complemented by exquisite and evocative landscape imagery, which glosses the human stories with an atmospheric, scarred beauty.
Director Luke Seomore will perform the film's score live with musicians Michael Garrad and David Stephens.
"One of the best documentaries I have seen in a long while." – Little White Lies.

An amateur film looking a issues of isolation. I like some of the artist shots in this film.
