- It maybe caused by withdrawal or avoidance of social interaction or contact (Also know as loneliness)
- Isolated individuals report fewer interactions with others, fewer sources of psychological/emotional support, and lower levels of religious activity
- Heightens anxiety
- Stressful
- Can produce physiological changes, which may become very serious. it can heighten morbidity or mortality
- Is influenced by factors such as genetics and childhood environment
